Today, I’m letting one of my real life bff’s take the reigns and share her amazing master bedroom closet makeover! It went from ok to fabulous- though it’s going to be even more fabulous because she has even more changes planned!!!
Take it away Lauren!
Hi, I’m Lauren. I’m one of Ashley’s study buddies in law school and I’m proud to say one of her good friends. I’m very passionate about decorating and love to share ideas with Ashley, so I’m so glad she allowed me to share some of my ideas on her blog today.
Organizing and Decorating a Closet
Yes, I said decorating a closet. I know an organized closet is something most people strive for, but taking the extra step of decorating it might seem a bit overkill.
Well, it’s a little different story for us. My husband and I bought a house with an extremely large master closet (15 ft x 7.5 ft). For me it was one of the selling points of the house. Not only is it large but it has three windows which gives us a ton of natural light. I LOVE IT!!!
Step One: Organizing
To be honest, my closet didn’t start that bad. I have plenty of Rubbermaid shelving, which I don’t mind, and I am a pretty organized person who keeps the closet fairly neat.
However, there just always seems to be those odds and ends that you don’t know what to do with, like disney hats and duffel bags. As you can see, I also like to keep shoe boxes for my MANY shoes.
My husband and I also needed more drawer space as three drawers for two people just didn’t cut it anymore.
I had looked forever for closet built-ins, but everything seemed so expensive and was just not worth it. One day it dawned on me that maybe built-ins were not the answer and instead I should find dressers to go with what I already have. So my husband and I went Ikea shopping.
We ended up coming home with two, three drawer, white dressers. (Dresser Style: Malm, $69.00 each) We chose two, three drawer, dressers instead of one, six drawer, dresser because for some reason in white, the three drawer dressers were cheaper. We saved $30.00 and put that savings towards buying the white glass top that would fit over both dressers together, giving us a unified look. (Glass Top Style: Malm, $30.00)
Once our organizational juices were flowing, we decided to step it up and also purchase shoe boxes and storage bins. (Shoe Box Style: Skubb, $9.99 for four boxes)

I was able to get two pairs of shoes in each shoe box, except for tennis shoes and my husband’s shoes. How many you fit in a box is really all about how you stack.
As for the storage bins, I don’t know the exact style I bought, but Ikea has so many, you’re bound to find something you like.
Step 2: Decorating
The idea to decorate actually came to me on my second solo trip to Ikea to purchase a few more storage bins, shoe boxes, and some garment bags. I’m not kidding when I said I had a lot of shoes.
As I was heading out of the store I saw a five pack of art cards at that looked like black and white European stamps. (Pictures Style: Kort; $5.00 for five different pictures) (Black Frame Style: Nyttja, $3.99 for a two pack)

They reminded me of this poster of Paris we had, which still did not have a place in our house. I figured a travel theme would be a nice touch to a closet, so I purchased a large frame at Ikea for the Paris poster which matched the smaller frames, and ran out of Ikea before I found more stuff to buy.
Then, with furniture and decor in toe, I was off to put it all together and this is what I came up with.

There are still a few more things I would like to add, like a nice rug, a reupholstered ottoman, and we even purchased handles to add to the dresser drawers for a more custom look. However, for now, I am pretty happy with the result.
Thanks to Ashley for letting me share my closet re-do with you all.

Thanks a ton Lauren!!!
Isn’t her closet amazing?!?!? I am totally in love with Malm dressers- we have four in our master- they’re affordable, durable, and completely customizable! Then those awesome storage bins, shoe boxes, all matching hangers… and of course, the adorable kitty who’s now found her home on the freed up space near the closet window. Too cute!
Oh ya… and Lauren shared her DIY’d bedroom wall art a while back on the blog too! In case you didn’t catch it, you can find it here.
