Yes, we have a project list! A HUGE project list. Now, we don’t expect to immediately get all these projects done, but we try to be planners so that we can effectively budget and prioritize our projects. Setting goals has been the most important part of us not “overspending” on our house. So, here is our list, in no particular order of importance, but broken up by area of the home:
Front Yard
Tear out all weedsGet rid of left-over basketball hoopPatch grass near basketball hoop- Plant grass up to RV gate
Dig up all shrubsRemove random brick border- Kill ivy in front and on side of house
- Possibly widen driveway
Plant flowersCut down poorly placed trees
Outside the House
- Power wash the windows, walkway, and entry
- Repaint shutters a deep chocolate brown
Refinish front doorUpdate the entry to make more inviting- Add lights to front of garage
- Repair stucco
Inside the House
Wash all windowsMake guest bedroom headboardRedesign and build out pantry- Create picture collage (one in living space and one in master bedroom)
- Design and build built-in benches for living room next to fireplace
- Build out more substantial hearth for fireplace
- Tile facade of fireplace with glass mosaic tiles or natural stone (maybe quartz)
- Re-frame front door
- Replace/paint all baseboards (opting for larger baseboards)
- Build/refinish bathroom vanities
- Paint ceilings throughout the house (they are not quite crisp-white like we’d like them to be and there are dirty in spots from the previous owners)
- Replace interior doors and hardware (as mentioned in our post here, many of the doors had holes!)
- Frame-out master bathroom mirror
- Build make-up vanity for master bedroom
- Tile bathroom floors
- Finish concrete floors throughout main living space (living room and entry already had concrete floors done thanks to DIY Network’s House Crashers, see here)
- Replace toilets in both bathrooms (current ones are really cheap with bad plumbing… need I say more?!?!?)
- Install cedar closet floor in master
- Repurpose closet kits
- Master bedroom closet build-out
- Build out gym shelves and equipment
Master bedroom build-outLaundry room remodel- Refinish/Replace kitchen cabinets
- Design and replace bathroom counters
- Remodel master bathroom shower to include two shower heads (reframe/rebuild new bathroom window)
- Paint and hang closet doors in bedrooms
- Hang gym mirror
- Coat closet build-out (entry)
Back Yard
- Power wash all concrete and fence
- Build pergola with sliding fabric panels, as seen here
- Create cement board fence murals
- Create privacy (lattice, tall trees???)
- Refinish hand-me-down outdoor fireplace
- Outdoor built-in kitchen
- Move air conditioner and screen in
- Pour concrete to match existing concrete (salt finish with color)
- Replace screen door for slider
- Dig up bricks that have been cemented in planters by the pool
- Build horseshoe pit and/or bocce ball court
Dig up all shrubsCut down tree (sounds bad, but it is a huge tree with lots of surface roots, too close to our pool)Grade dirt in planter areasPlant seasonal flowers
Garage
Build workbench
- Build garage shelves
- Refinish garage floors
- Paint garage (try to make the garage style an extension of our home)

- How to etch glass (mirror and window projects)
- Build and upholster large bench/daybed for living room
- Set up office filing/storage system
- Replace air vents in the house
