That’s right… more than visual changes, content changes are a’brewin’ over here at DBL. Like usual, I will be posting our many household projects, but I will also be beginning a few new series. Yup, we’re going to get some trains lined up and start adding cars! Sorry… my grandpa worked with trains and it’s just in the genes, I suppose!
So, what accounts for the changes… a few things… and here’s why…
Inspiration
Since finding out about and joining Pinterest, inspiration has been overwhelming… in a good way! I finally have a way to store all of the amazing images that I fall in LOVE with and am able to make notes about each one as I pin it!
With all this wonderful inspiration out there, I decided I want to share it here on the blog. So, coming soon, you will see the “Inspiration Files!”
If you don’t know what Pinterest is, this is how Pinterest describes itself:
“Pinterest is a Virtual Pinboard. Pinterest lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes. Best of all, you can browse pinboards created by other people. Browsing pinboards is a fun way to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests. To get started, request an invite.”
Unfortunately, Pinterest is still just invitation only, BUT, you’re in luck, because I have some invitations to give away! If you want to get started, go to my Contact Page and email me for your exclusive invitation! You won’t regret it!
If you’re more of a visual person, here’s a quick video tutorial via YouTube from one of my favorite bloggers, Beth Hunter of Home Stories A to Z:
To date, I have 32 boards full of amazing pins! If you’d like to “follow me” on Pinterest, just click the link in the right sidebar on this page! Sharing inspiration is crazy fun!
Organization
This brings me to my second topic… getting organized! I’ve been a self-proclaimed organization freak since a very young age. I was always the kid with the tidy room and categorized, color-coded closet. Yup… I’m THAT anal! Don’t know if I should smile or frown… so I’ll leave you with the awkward face. :{
Well, I finally had a melt-down a few weeks ago- after Eric’s Big 3-0. Yup… me… a meltdown… big surprise! Oh well… I tend to get over them really quick, usually. All-in-all, it was probably a combination of things that led to this “meltdown” including exhaustion, but it happened. This time, though, I knew I wouldn’t just snap out of it. I came to the realization that I was no longer this self-proclaimed organizational freak. I. Was. Disorganized. (You should’a seen the horror on my face when I came to this realization.) Basically, over the last 2.5 years, this is what happened…
- We got engaged
- Planned a wedding in 4.5 months
- I started law school
- We got married after my first week of law school
- We bought our house
- We moved into our house right before my first set of law school exams
- I changed jobs
- I changed law schools
- Eric changed jobs
- … and lots of “life” happened in between all that!
Suffice to say, while we unpacked our house fairly quickly after moving in (my husband calls me the unpacking-N*!?), organization hadn’t really been a priority. Well, after a year-and-a-half and hundreds of “babe, do you know where ____ is at?!?!?” from Eric, I finally called it quits! Nope, not in the divorce way, you silly people… we’re in this for the long haul! I called quits on our disorganized ways! Luckily for me, Eric and I are both clean-freaks, and our house is never really messy or dirty, it’s just become disorganized. And this super busy couple just can’t live this way any more.
Ok, I know… enough babbling! This is what that all means… we’re getting organized! One drawer, room, closet, or compartment at a time, and we’ll be sharing this adventure with you all! Including, our super embarrassing, awful, traumatic before pics! I’m not going to put some crazy timeline on this, since we are busy (remember that list above… well, I still have two more years of law school left). So, my goal is to accomplish one “area” per week and post as often as I can about it. And the kicker… trying to spend as little as possible while doing it! So, we’ll see how it goes!
Cool Things
Pretty generic, huh… well, I LOVE cool things and I’m sure you do too, so I’m going to start a Cool Things series! Ridiculous, I know, but I LOVE finding new cool things, whether it’s tools, books, art, websites, methods, etc, and I really want to share them! So there… that’s it. I’m sharing. Cool things… coming soon! (btw… this series will not have any formal schedule and will basically be a “when I come across them” sort-of thing.)
Favorite DIY’s
This is a new section of our blog under the DIY tab. The reason I’m starting this is because I want to build out a decent DIY database on the blog, and it might take a while at this snail’s blog’s pace! We’re getting there, but we just have to do a little at a time- we’ve got budget and time-constraints people!
In the meantime, we’d love to showcase projects from around the blogosphere. If you have or know of an awesome DIY project, please let me know and I will share it as a blog post on my home page and then archive it here for later use! So… let me know if you know of something I should share!
Well… that about does it! Did you get all that…
