Why I LOVE my Concrete Floors!
Concrete floors have been a long-standing tradition in industrial buildings and shopping centers, but they’re a somewhat new revolution in the common home. To many, the thought of concrete floors in their home is enough to make them cringe. For others, concrete floors would simply be too casual or unsophisticated. When people have never been to our home (or seen it online), and they find out that we have concrete floors in our home… the reaction is often a raised brow and a scattered attempt to find some kind of unoffensive comment or inquiry. Seriously, it’s funny to watch (sometimes I wish I had a quick-reaction camera to capture the moment to create a “wall of shock” somewhere in our home)! Most of the time, I just jump in and begin explaining how the concrete looks and functions to save them the embarrassment of the awkward, silent moment. It helps… kind’a. Long before our House Crashers episode was even a dream, I have been obsessed with the idea of finished concrete floors in our home and Eric quickly warmed up to the idea- gotta love the supportive hubby! Why was I so obsessed, and what is to love about polished concrete floors? 1- They’re eco-friendly; 2- They’re super affordable compared to many other flooring options; 3- They’re ridiculously durable- like you have to scratch more than and inch and a quarter off the surface of our floors before you get passed the stain, and they don’t stain at all because of the sealant (eco-friendly) that they put on the concrete; and 4- the cleanup is a dream- just sweep and steammop, no chemicals even allowed! Luckily for us, House Crashers took our dream and made it a reality in our very large living room! The end result was something of … Continue reading

311 Days Later, The Front Door Returns!
Seriously, it’s been that long! We were blessed with an amazing front door from DIY Network’s House Crashers, but as mentioned here, we decided to change it up a bit and stain the whole thing! Front door posts have been scattered throughout this blog (here, here, and here) ever since we took the door down back in March! And while I would like to give us a super hard time for taking so long to get this project done… IT WAS A LOT OF WORK! Yup, I finally got the door put up thanks to the hubby’s and my dad’s muscles! (no pictures thanks to me very dramatically knocking my diamond out of my wedding set during the process- but it’s all better now!) Anyways… the point is that it was up! The door was actually put up on Thanksgiving Day, but it still needed a bit of cleanup… see the stain and poly chillin’ like a villian on my glass windows… Ya, NOT acceptable! But, also, not avoidable (I had tried taping off the window during the refinishing process but it proved to be way more work than it was worth!). So, I took my handy-dandy assortment of razors/scrapers and went to town, carefully scraping off the gunk. After only two hours and a little bit of elbow grease, I was left with this! Absolutely perfectly clean windows to let all that amazing morning light back into our home! And, now… for the BIG reveal! Here’s the full porch view! (Please ignore the Christmas lights… post on that coming soon!) This seriously makes me smile ear to ear and look like a ridiculous dork! It’s like that moment in high school where you randomly get the giggles in class for no reason at all, and everyone looks at … Continue reading

Entryway Bliss
I have been missing my front door for way too long now and it’s making me reminisce about the good ol’ times we had… the morning light coming in… silhouettes of guests waiting on the other side of the door… chic-ness… Ya, I miss you beautiful mahogany door! Well, hopefully you will be back up soon since I’ve been working on you (sort-of, not as quickly as I’d like to)… So for now, I suffer with this ugly door, seen pre-House Crashers days since I refuse to take a picture of it now. BUT, when you do return… I’ve got plans! Since there’s no real room for a table of any kind, thanks to our sliding doors and tiny quarter wall (shown below), I think we just might have to spice things up with a colorful piece of art right above the light switches by the front door. Any ideas or recommendations??? Blog this!
