Our Thanksgiving Table
This year, Eric and I will be hosting Thanksgiving for not only our family, but also a few members of Eric’s family, for a total of eleven people! Not a huge group, but a wonderfully fun-sized group. Since our dining room table does not exactly accommodate eleven people, we’re planning to use our kitchen table (which matches our dining room table) in addition to give the proper amount of seating. On a regular basis, Eric and I like to be as prepared as possible for things, and since I’m a planner, we tend to front-load a lot of things to make entertaining as stress-free as possible! So, since Kim at Newly Woodwards put out a challenge, “Dare to DIY,” I figured this was the perfect opportunity to start tweaking the table arrangement in preparation for the holidays. So, while this likely won’t be our final arrangement, this is our first shot… Enjoy (and make sure to check out all the other inspiration)! In all honesty, I had plans to DIY some awesome napkin rings and custom dye some fun cloth napkins, but if you follow me on Twitter or Facebook (or you might have caught it in our last post about upcoming giveaways), you know that Eric and I were down and out sick over the weekend. Boo… total bummer! Maybe I can pull it off before Thanksgiving! We’ll see! ~Ashley ANYONE ELSE WORKING ON THEIR TABLE ARRANGEMENT OR SOME OTHER DIY FOR THANKSGIVING? $7 DIY Multi-Holiday Table Centerpiece
If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, then you know that Eric and I ran away to his family’s cabin and then to Southern California the other weekend after I completed one of my law school exams. While we were at the cabin, I managed to scour the area for some awesome (and free) pinecones! I had been mentally planning our dining table centerpiece and with a plethora of pinecones at my fingertips, I just knew that they had to take center stage in this project! Free + creativity is always good, right? Don’t you LOVE my camo! Anyways, I ended up collecting quite a few by the end of the weekend and it was safe to say that they pinecones had tons of natural character, complete with sap and all! Once home, I got them lined up outside, grabbed some metallic spray paint, and went to town! Once the pinecones were complete, I turned my attention to my $2 Target pumpkins. I decided to spruce them up a bit too! So, I grabbed my handy wedding tulle and added some flare! With the pinecones and pumpkins dressed, I attempted a few arrangements and finally ended up with this: And the one spare extra-large pinecone found a home on our living room’s coffee table. Here’s the cost breakdown for this project: Spray Paint ($3.50 each) Seriously… that was IT! We only spent $7 for this project! Here’s where all the other stuff came in: Pumpkins: leftover from Halloween ($2 each) Wicks in Wine Bottles: purchased on our Labor Day getaway ($3 each) Completely FREE ITEMS: 2 hexagon mirrors mom didn’t want, tulle from our wedding, pine cones from the cabin, wine bottles that we actually drank I’m sure there will be many revisions to come, but I am loving … Continue reading

Dining Room- To Repaint or Not To Repaint?
Many people of seen our dining room a time or two here on our blog, and we absolutely LOVE it, but lately… I have been wondering if the teal/turquoise is really the right color for our home… I’ve always wanted a purple accent wall in our dining room. This is what the room currently looks like: This is the only image I found that most closely represents the purple shade I would be going for- more of a purple-grey-blue tone: {source} I’d love some feedback and thoughts! I am just not sure if the turquoise really flows with the rest of our house… though I may need to wait to make an drastic paint decisions until I actually finish the flooring throughout the house… that might help TONS with continuity and flow! I’m linking up with the Roomspiration Party over at Involving Color… come join in! ~Ashley **PS- still working out the slow-loading and oversized picture issues on the blog… please hang tight if you’re still experiencing them! Thank you for the understanding and patience! Blog this! Updated Whole House Tour
Hey guys. I feel very fortunate to be participating in a wonderful linky party over at A Bowl Full of Lemons – The Parade of Homes. If you haven’t already checked out Toni’s blog, you should! It’s full of tons of fun challenges that are worth a gander, and the linky party is full of amazing inspiration! To celebrate this wonderful linky party and amazing blog, I’ve officially updated a long-overdue home tour. Feel free to check out the updated tour below. After this, I promise to try and keep the Home Tour tab updated as best I can as we go… so check back for updates when you can! The “stats” on our Home! Track Home Built in 2003 2300 sq. ft., single story! 4 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms VERY Open Floorplan Disclaimer (LOL): The following “before” pictures are just that… very “before,” taken when we first bought the house. As mentioned in our About Us, the house was a short sale that needed a ton of TLC, but it had the bones/floorplan we wanted, so we bought it anyways, figuring we could do most of the work ourselves and get it all up to our standards!!! We’ve now been in our house about a year and a half, which sounds like a long time, but when you are DIYing almost everything, progress is not always speedy! As such, “progress” pictures are simply posted as we go, but you can check out our “goals” for our home at the bottom of the About Us page if you want an idea of where we’re going with it all. Accent’n the Living Room and Dining Room
After our amazing House Crasher’s episode on DIY Network, Eric and I decided that it was time to “personalize” the dining room and living room. The rooms were beautiful when the crew left (you can see more about that and how much we love everything, here), but the rooms were decorated in a minimalistic manner due to time crunch and the desire for mass appeal. So… Here were the rooms IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE SHOW: NOTE: no new pictures of the entryway, because it was too beautifully simple to change. THIS IS WHAT WE DID… The Dining Room got accented with a few collector plates from my travels, and the shelves were adorned with family pictures, wedding pictures, and the guest sign-in book from our wedding. We also added drapes over the windows, a wall-mounted candelabra, and a large mirror to reflect the light and warmth of the dining room. The Living Room received a bit of a re-dressing in addition to the new accents. While we loved our basket chairs, we worried that they might be dangerous over the concrete floors; since they swung from the ceiling… they could be a totally dangerous attraction for kids! EEK! So, we went to Pier One and picked up two gorgeous peacock upholstered chairs and put them in place. After chair placement, we added a wall-mounted candelabra, a coordinating wall hanging, and drapes to match the other set of windows to warm up the space. Then, the shelves were dressed with some personal pictures, a ceramic tile that we had painted in Mexico while we were on a cruise, books, and some candles. As you can see, there are green, blue, and clear little glass lanterns throughout both spaces. Those were actually from our wedding, and we loved them so much, we wanted … Continue reading
